Stayed here just after Christmas. Beautiful cabin, property, area, everything. They even had the place decorated for Christmas to give that little extra holiday feel. Snowed while we were up there and kids had a blast playing in the snow.

I appreciate how clean the house was. It felt cozy and like home right away! The outdoor area is stunning! We sled, played in the snow, roasted marshmallows and hot dogs, played by the lake and all was right outside our door! The proximity to all the fun stuff allowed us to maximize our time outdoors. Our girls, ages 5 and 8 explored and played outside for a long time. This place is the perfect combination of stunning nature and commodities at their best! I definitely recommend this cabin and if you come take time to admire the night sky ! Thank you for the joyous stay!

Imagine if you could be the caretaker of your very own Catch A Trout Farm. Well, we were, right here at the Tonto Ranch. During the day, this amazing property is a Trout Farm for the public. It's a sleepy place that families come to enjoy. We lived watching them come and go, trying their luck, casting their poles. Our 8 year old son thought he worked here. He loved interacting with guests and telling them the best spots and about his 18inch catch. At night, you have the vast property to yourself. It's so well kept and spotless. We loved walking the grounds, it was safe and perfect for our family. I cant imagine a better place to celebrate my Birthday. We will remember it always. Highly recommend.

The cabin and grounds exceeded our expectations, even after reading the positive reviews. It is a great layout for families. There are two bedrooms downstairs: One BR has a queen bed and nice view of the grounds and pond. The other downstairs BR has twin bunk bed + a freestanding twin, which was perfect for our 3 young kids to share. The main living area has an open kitchen/dining/greatroom with a wonderful view of the lush grounds and pond. There is a separate living space off the kitchen with a large living room area and a lovely master bed/bath upstairs. We kept to the main part of the house–next time we will convince my mom to come and use the extra room! Randy was a kind and gracious host. The grounds were beautifully maintained with access to Tonto Creek, which was fun to explore, though too shallow for swimming. There are cherry and apple trees- we were lucky enough to leave with some homemade apple pie filling from Randy–we made pie our first night home and it was delicious!! We saw elk, deer, and an abundance of squirrels and birds. My kids (2,4,7 years) were able to feed the fish in the pond in the evening- a real highlight for them! They also caught rainbow trout and Randy prepared it for our grill! The kids even got a lesson on preparing the fish (I left for this part!) We will definitely be back. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

What a beautiful place. The cabin is wonderfully decorated and cozy warm with all the rustic charm we could ask for. We loved walking the grounds and picnicking on the back patio. We were able to explore the hatchery and fish in the creek as well as be close to town for some antiquing Our family really enjoyed staying at the cabin and look forward to our next vacation.

We had a great time at the property and it is just perfect if you have children. We were well taken care of and the home was cozy and had everything you could possibly ask for. Fishing was great and we cooked our trout as we caught it. Kids loved the experience.

Wonderful weekend get -away. Property was amazing and cabin was in excellent condition. Brenda and Randy were gracious hosts, thanks guys. Watching children from our porch catching fish in the trout pond was a special treat you can´t experience anywhere else. Wish we could have stayed longer, will definitely be heading back.

 5.0   -   A Perfect Stay and a Perfect Wedding
Reviewed on Jan 16, 2016
This review is LONG overdue. My husband and I got married in September 2015. We had our wedding and reception at Catch-A-Trout. We also had the pleasure of staying in the cabin for three nights. Planning a wedding from 3 hours away isn´t easy, so it´s not a surprise that there were a few miscommunications in regard to some of the details, especially because so many parties were involved (my mom, my dad, me, and Brenda and Randy-the owners). However, once we all got on the same page, everything worked out to our advantage. When we arrived at the cabin, Randy and Brenda were very accommodating. They explained where we could park (right by the cabin), and allowed us to use their extra refrigerator for the food we were preparing for the wedding. The cabin was fully stocked with just about anything and everything we needed including an extensive about of kitchen necessities. The cabin was clean and beautiful. The internet and cell phone reception is a little spotty, but it is everywhere in that area of Payson. Randy and Brenda were available for us for anything we needed and made sure that we were satisfied with our stay. During our stay, a young girl was injured by a boy on the premises. Her parents blamed Catch-A-Trout for the injury, but since we were able to see everything outside our cabin window I can say that Catch-A-Trout had absolutely nothing to do with the injury, which was as I previous stated, caused by a malicious little boy instead of the campus. Before the wedding, Randy mowed the grass and cleaned up the already beautiful property so that it would be picture perfect for our wedding. During our wedding, Randy and Brenda checked in to help us with anything we needed (this was an early morning, weekday wedding and they were still willing to accommodate us) and allowed us to enjoy the celebration with our guests, although we invited them several times to join us because we appreciated the treatment they gave us. Randy and Brenda take a lot of pride in their campus and the work they have put into it, and they expect their guests to do the same. Knowing the work they put into Catch-A-Trout, my family did our best to respect their property and encourage our guests to do the same (although I believe our guests still could have been more respectful of the beauty of the property and the residents of the cabin-which was my family, but that´s on us and not on Catch-A-Trout). If a family is willing to respect the property and all it has to offer, thi

5.0   -   Awesome log cabin on Tonto Creek

I have stayed at this beautiful cabin for 3 straight years. The owners are the nicest people and their cabin is exactly as described. The property is always clean and the grounds are perfectly maintained, a true Shangri-La. The location is perfect, away from the hustle and bustle of the world but close to restaurants in Christopher Creek or Kohl's Ranch, if you choose not to cook in the well equipped kitchen or outside grill. The location is perfect if you wish to fish in the pond just outside the the cabin doorsteps, visit Zane Gray's cabin, Tonto Fish Hatchery or its a short drive to the top of the rim. The grounds are right next to Tonto Creek and have a beautiful ramada and fire pit area. I highly recommend this beautiful cabin.

Our family of five (3 kids --ages 13, 11 and 11) have been vacationing in this area of Payson for the last five years because the location is amazing. This is the first time we have stayed at the Rancho Tonto cabin and our kids definitely voted it the best ! The cabin is very clean and roomy with all the amenities you will need. The grounds are spectacular and very well maintained. The owners are helpful and welcoming. The fire pit was perfect for roasting hot dogs and s'mores after a long day of exploring the waterfalls and rim lakes---only short drives away. Kids of any age will have something to keep them busy on this property. We will be back!!!
