3.0   -   Good location, nice owners, but not a pleasant stay
Reviewed on Jan 07, 2019
I'll start with the pros! This cabin is close to the main center of Payson so we had easy access to grocery stores and restaurants. The owners are very nice. A car got stuck on the icy road and Wes came out to help. Verla came over one day and gave us freshly baked cookies! She also ran over with tape when we asked if she had any. The game room is fun for pool and darts, however you need to pay if you want to play the other games. Although it's small, the jacuzzi was awesome in the freezing weather! Now for the cons. The listing says it fits 10 people, but I would not recommend sleeping 10 people here comfortably. We had 8 people and it was a tight squeeze. One of the "rooms" is in the attic, which is extremely small and you cannot stand up in it, child or adult. The attic has 2 mattresses (one double and one single), fitting 3 people, and there are no doors so it's open to the living room and kitchen noise. Also, the ladder to get up to the attic felt dangerous. No one could sleep in the game room because it was freezing and the heater barely worked down there. The owners live 2 houses down from the cabin; they walked around our cabin and checked in on us a couple times which made us feel uncomfortable. One of us had just gotten out of the jacuzzi and Verla stopped by at that time and got upset with him for not putting the cover back on right away (which isn't mentioned in the house information). The jacuzzi only fits 3 people comfortably. The owners only gave us 3 rolls of toilet paper; we had to go out and buy our own. Same with paper towels. Our water was turned off for 2 days because of a leak in the community well. We couldn't shower, flush the toilet, wash our hands or the dishes during that time. If you stay here during the winter months, I would highly recommend coming with a car that has 4 wheel drive or put chains on your tires. The neighborhood has hills, and multiple car got stuck on the ice/snow and either got stuck or began rolling backwards down the hills.

5.0   -   Family Thanksgiving Cabin Stay
Reviewed on Nov 26, 2018
We spent several days over the Thanksgiving holiday at the Holiday Hideaway cabin. The cabin was perfect. It was spacious, clean, and all of the little touches made it special. The owners left the makings for smores, a bottle of wine, and even brought over sand toys for the grandkids to play with in the sandbox. The game room was a hit for the big kids as well as the little ones. We love the cabins the owners have . I can't decide which one I like best!

What a great place. Plenty of room for everyone. The game room is amazing for the kids. Love the fact that the yard is very pet friendly. My dog tends to be an escape artist and he was nice and secure here. The home is placed perfectly between Pine and Payson. Beds are comfy, the home is clean, and lots of nice extra touches. Would highly recommend staying here.

Holiday Hideaway was definitely a holiday. Great location to head down to the river, to hike, the dogs loved the backyard and we enjoyed the game room with so many options. The DVD, VHS and books made for a relaxing down time as well. Very clean and friendly owners. Enjoy!

Loved the property and surrounding area. The kitchen was well stocked with just about anything you would need, only complaint would be I wish I could of found a pan to cook pancakes or potatoes in with a non stick surface... Everything else was wonderful! Owner is very nice and had a cake, balloons, on the table for my son who had just returned from deployment..The kids loved the game room and treadmill as well as the nice yard.. I would recommend this nice hideaway in a quiet neighborhood. Very close to hiking and the verde river...We saw elk, javelina and squirrels.

 5.0   -   Relaxing and cozy

We enjoyed everything about the cabin. Our only disappointment was that we had to many things planned for our trip, and therefore were not able to spend enough time at the cabin. Next time we go, we want to spend at least 2 days enjoying the pool table, pinball machine, horseshoes, hiking, and just relaxing in this very comfortable and cozy cabin and eating meals outside on the covered table. Then the only drawback will be leaving this cabin and going back to reality.

 4.0   -   Cute spot
Reviewed on Jun 16, 2018
This place was really cute, very cabin-esque. It's quite petite but spacious at the same time. There are plenty of areas for people to sleep however not perfectly accommodating for certain people. My group of friends came to stay for Payson's Mogollon Monster Mudda mud run, some of those friends I think are a bit higher maintenance. However, nonetheless, the loft is cute and fun for kids. For adults not so much because it is tight up there, being unable to fully stand up and a futon that seemed to not be long enough for an adult to sleep on comfortably, and you have to go up to the loft w/ a ladder that isn't leveled to the floor, is bracketed to the wall but not as well as it could/should be, and there were splinters! Some of my friends got the worst of that. The other thing I would complain about is the fact that the owner knew there would be 8 of us for two nights and we ran out of toilet paper. Apparently she only stocks so much and then we have to buy our own. I thought it was a little out of the norm when you pay to stay in a HomeAway and you would be accommodated with those basic needs. Or at least that's what I've experienced with all my other HomeAway's-there has always been an ample amount of toilet paper. On a bright note, she did have other various toiletries for free in the master bedroom, so somewhat balanced it out. The TV would also only show black and white. I thought it kind of added to the cabin in the woods type of feel, but it was annoying to try and watch TV and it try to play in color. Annoying, but minor. Overall, cute home and was a decent stay. Just needs a better ladder, a futon (in the loft) that fits an adult-sized human, and more toilet paper.

Everything is setup perfectly. There is so much to do, within the fenced yard or outside of it. Leaving is the hardest part of the trip. We planned on hiking, paddle boat, enjoying the game room during the day and relaxing with the fire pit and jacuzzi in the evening. Come to find out we should have stayed a month, because sitting out back listening to the breeze blow through the tall pines, makes you not want to move. The starlights were bright and glistening. Very relaxing, Pure paradise. The owner's are very hospitable and some of the nicest people you'll meet in Arizona. We started planning our next stay there before we even left. Definitely will stay again and highly recommend it to ALL!!

Okay so ideally I wanted to leave only 1 star but not for the reasons you think. I don't want anybody to know about this hidden Payson Gem. If you want rest, relaxation and a place to enjoy family time look no further. This place has it all for all ages and the owners were extremely helpful and friendly with every part of our stay. It isn't the grand things that make this ideal it is the subtle little things that make this place Heaven. Don't bother looking any further for something else, this is it, and you won't be disappointed. Book now don't wait for the schedule to fill up and miss out on this great property.

My husband and I enjoyed our time at the Holiday Hideaway. Its peaceful and tucked away, yet close enough to amenities for convenience. I would recommend this place. The game room is great! One drawback was that the vintage pinball machine is temperamental and stopped working shortly after we arrived and started playing it. Just be careful not to "tilt" it too much or it shuts down. The owners are very accommodating and reply quickly which is nice.

This tucked away gem is located a short walk away from the Verde River. The home is rustic and comfortable. The kitchen is definitely not large but hey we did not come up here to hang out in the kitchen! My teenagers LOVED the downstairs game area. They spent most of their time there playing pool, pinball (don't forget to bring dimes!) and watching TV when we were not outside. It was great to see them unplugged from their electronics and spending time together laughing and having a good time. The outdoor area was a really big hit with our family, especially our dogs. The fully fenced yard was wonderful allowing our dogs to explore every square inch of the property without us having to worry that they would wander off and get lost. We went exploring on the trails nearby and were greeted by deer along the way. The neighbors are really friendly and the owners are amazing! Thank you for the tomatoes Verla, we loved them! Though not on our property, the Hot Tub was a hit, we did not have a chance to enjoy the sauna. We definitely will be back!

5.0   -   Great cabin in quiet area, convenient to town, with everything you need for a relaxing getaway
Reviewed on Aug 06, 2017
We booked this cabin last minute and everything went very smoothly. The owners responded very quickly with the confirmation and info on how to find it and get in. It has a cabin in the woods feel with all the modern amenities including central A/C and a Keurig coffee maker. It just 10 minutes to town in a quiet neighborhood, walking distance to the river. The best part for us was the games room downstairs. We spent our evenings grilling and playing pool, darts, cornhole, and pinball! Hoping to be back in the winter!

The location was perfect for our visit. We were playing in a golf tournament in Payson and during our off time, we visited the Tonto Natural Bridge. Everyone in our group had a good time. We hiked all of the trails. Since the house was so close to the forest land we went for a jeep ride out the back gate. The land and river was beautiful. In the house we loved the pinball machine!! It was a big hit for our group. We wished is didn't tilt so easily. The pool table was tough to use. The columns in the pictures are too close to the table plus the table was not level. This really interfered with our shot making abilities. The kitchen is very tight but we're able to cook for our group of 7. The cookware could be updated...pots and pans plus the knives were limited. There were lots of knives but they were not in the best shape. The kitchen was not stocked as well as other places we have stayed. Plastic bags were nowhere to be found. Paper towels, napkins and paper plates we there but in limited stock. The master bedroom worked very well. The bedroom with the 3 beds in it was warm but the beds were comfortable. The loft area was tough to climb up the ladder. Going to the restroom in the middle of the night was difficult too. The coffeaker was perfect for us. The dining room held our group and was easy to use. The frig held all of our supplies for the duration of our stay. The built in BBQ with the charcoal worked very well. We enjoyed sitting around the table while our food was cooking. The white plastic chairs were dirty and should be replaced. We were glad we brought our own outdoor chairs. If it would have been cooler at night, we would have used the fire pit. There was a nice supply of dry wood. Over all we enjoyed our stay. The home allowed us to spend time together as a group and that was important to us. Verla was around a lot to make sure we were enjoying our stay. She responded to my questions and request in a timely manner. She was very easy to work with for our stay. I also need to say the place was clean when we arrived.

From the warm welcome, to everything you could need provided for us at the cabin, it was wonderful. We enjoyed the scenery, nearby Verde River, hiking, dining and relaxing in the pines. Highly recommend to those in the valley who don't need have a lot of time to leave the state but want to escape from the heat. We will definitely stay here again. It was one hour and 15 minutes door to door.
