5.0   -   Wonderful in every way

The view from this rental IS truly spectacular. From the spacious deck you see the west side of Madera Canyon that lights up with the morning sun. If you keep the feeders stocked you will see many kinds of hummingbirds (we saw five regularly in the early spring) and flocks of songbirds. You might even be visited by other kinds of small wildlife that help with the entertainment. The house is comfortably appointed with furniture and deck chairs. The kitchen pantry is nicely stocked with spices and other items that will make it easy to cook pretty much whatever you want once you purchase the main ingredients. The owner communicates well and the caretaker is personable and takes care of any minor problems. I should note that none arose while we were on the property for a month. We recommend this property with enthusiasm and hope to return ourselves when time permits.

5.0   -   Madera Canyon home away from home

We totally enjoyed our stay. It was our first time to use HomeAway and will use it again. The owner was prompt with any response to our questions. Their description of the property was very accurate. It was private, clean and all needs were met. Madera Canyon offers a great experience for hikers, bikers, artists and bird enthusiasts. Their description did say that it was not for everyone but it was for us.

We had a very relaxing week and refreshed ourselves physically and mentally. Great birding and hiking opportunities. Much of the time we just enjoyed a relaxed pace and the scenery. If given the opportunity we will definitely return for even a longer visit than the week we had available. So far the highlight of our trip.

5.0   -   Molly's Madera Canyon cabin is incredible! Most beautiful house in most beautiful location
Reviewed on Jan 13, 2019
The cabin itself is remarkable. I've never seen woodwork quite like it, because it really is one of a kind. It felt like a great privilege to be in the last house before the trailheads that lead up into the mountains. We had deer in the yard and a coati on the porch, not to mention all the birds that flew through. In addition to being beautiful, the house is very well equipped with kitchen supplies, games, hundreds of movies and thousands of CDs. I will certainly be staying again the next time I'm in the area! Thank you Molly!!

A beautiful cabin in a beautiful location with beautiful views. It was perfect for a week away. If you're a birder, it's the place to be. Wish I could give it six stars.

Molly's Madera Canyon home is a work of art. Hand hewn, dovetailed aromatic cedar construction lovingly crafted by Richard Lansky. Watching the morning sun slide down the canyon walls...the whirr of the hummingbirds...the taste of the mountain air...serene and peaceful...how could one possibly leave this place? Thank you Molly for sharing this little piece of heaven with us!

5.0   -   The very best of Madera Canyon
Reviewed on Apr 07, 2018
Madera Canyon is one of the most amazing places for birds and wildlife you'll never see anywhere else. Hummingbird Hill is absolutely the best place to stay in this unique environment. The owners provided feeders that brought in an array of birds that fascinated and amazed us. 5 types of hummingbirds came, with big numbers of magnificent hummers our constant companions from morning to night. Many other birds too countless to mention here also came. The view from the ample porch is absolutely inspiring -- we would eat every night outside and just take it all in. The house itself is a masterpiece of woodworking and unique design. We marveled at the painstaking work done inside and out by a craftsman who still lives in the canyon. And the animals -- anyone who hasn't seen a coatimundi or ring-tailed cat should stay at Hummingbird Hill because they're there. I can't imagine a better place to experience the magic of Madera Canyon than this wonderful place, so full of family history and with so many places to explore. It's the last cabin in the canyon, right at the trailheads for the major trails. You can hike Madera without getting in a car. Our month at Hummingbird Hill was a rich and enjoyable experience that we'll never forget. We give it our highest recommendation. Cheers, Rick

If I could live here for months at a time, I would. Hummingbird Hill is a real vacation home - peaceful and beautiful. We explored the hundreds of CDs in the collection there, and played a few new games. Hiking and bird watching filled our days, along with trips down the Canyon to cycle in Green Valley. Everything you need for a unique vacation is here.

Weather was very nice. We hit a warm spell, so highs were in the high 60s. Nights stayed above freezing. Very nice well built cabin. Could not ask for more. Enjoyed the birds and the pesky Coatimundi, who would show up from time to time trying to empty the bird feeders. Easily could be run off when need be. Thanks and will book again.

5.0   -   Great weather while we were here so we enjoyed the Madera Canyon hikes immensely.

Very comfortable, rustic and scenic. The driveway has been recently paved so absolutely no problem coming and going with Honda Odyssey. It is no inconvenience having Green Valley a 15-20 minute drive away since is a very scenic drive. We hope to return next year since we imagine it will be hard to find another rural rental providing an equal experience.

We love this place!! We've stayed here two years in a row. Perfect for us because we don't want to be around people and we love birds, wild animals, hiking and sitting in the green swing on the porch! The road to the house can be a challenge and you must have a jeep or other high vehicle. There are steep steps to get and from the entrance. The house is great and has all the things you need except hair dryer. Bring your own food, coffee etc. We hope to go back next year. Owners are great, caretaker is nearby and house is clean. What more can you ask for!!

 5.0   -   A great place to unwind
Reviewed on Jun 02, 2017
This was an amazing place to stay, spacious, very clean and comfortable, we like to cook and the kitchen was well equipped. Nice to have laundry facilities too. The porch was large and a great place to sit and watch all the birds on the feeders, (bird seed was provided). The one and only thing we thought could be improved upon was to have a bed upstairs rather than a sofa sleeper, there was ample room for one. We had a wonderful stay and it's on our list of places to visit again. Great value for money.

We stayed at Hummingbird Hill for the whole month of March and were wishing we had another month to stay by the first week we had been there. The home is very unique and a little dated, but roomy and plenty comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked and we were able to cook just like at home, it even had a crock pot. But all this is not what made this place so special.... When you go out on the deck of this wonderful home you feel secluded and wondrous of your surroundings. You can look out and see tops of trees and in those trees are the many woodpeckers making nest and hiding acorns. There are turkeys that come in large groups to visit you, we even had a couple who were fighting in the front yard and went over the side onto the driveway coming up to the house. I worried for a bit but they showed back up. Deer came to visit also, they were more sensitive to us being there and didn't stay for long. Now for the truly most amazing part, to be able to sit in the porch swing and observe all the amazing birds that show up at the feeders...we had Magnificent, Broad billed, Broad tailed, Rufus, Black Chinned, and Costa hummingbirds at the two feeders, at the suet feeders there were Acorn and Arizona Woodpeckers, Bridled Titmouses, and Nuthatches. At the finch feeders there were Lesser Gold finches, Pine siskins, and House finches. Yellow eyed Juncos were everywhere. That is just a list of regular visitors, there were many more in the bushes and trees surrounding the house. My husband did hike some of the trails in the area and we explored several wildlife areas but we were more than happy to spend most of our time out on the porch enjoying the solitude and wildlife surrounding us. We were hoping to reserve again next year, even looked online while we were still at the house, but to our dismay it is already reserved for next year until May....so maybe (hopefully) we can come back in 2019. Thank you so much for sharing you wonderful home with us!

5.0   -   Peaceful retreat in mountains
Reviewed on Nov 20, 2016
This house is an amazing custom built retreat in the mountains. The woodwork throughout the house is interesting and we enjoyed using the stairway over the living room to the upper balcony for great dark sky stargazing. The huge deck has a great view of mountains. We spent many hours just relaxing and enjoying the view. There is a lot of wildlife around including deer, coati , wild turkeys , bats, various birds including hummers, and lizards and squirrels. The house is spacious with a big kitchen and nice bath and comfy bed. We got to hike many of the beautiful trails in the national forest with ever changing views of the mountains and the desert in the distance. One of our most memorable vacation places ever and we cant' wait to come stay here again. Also, great communication with Molly before and during our stay. Thanks again, Molly.

5.0   -   Beautiful and relaxing. Birds, Bats, and a Coati
Reviewed on May 24, 2016
My husband and I just spent a week at Hummingbird Hill. The house is lovely and in a beautiful location. Very quiet and relaxing. We were there in May and were surrounded by hummingbirds, tanagers, siskins and nectar-feeding bats that enjoyed the various bird feeders. There is a coati in the neighborhood who was also a regular visitor. We had Elf Owls, Whiskered Screech Owls, Red-faced Warbler, Mexican Whippoorwill and Elegant Trogons in the canyon just below the house. Rent this house if you want a relaxing vacation with amazing wildlife!
