  • Fun place

    4 of 5

The castle is a lot of fun. We stayed there 4 nights while I think 3 would have been perfect. In winter, the upstairs (esp turret room) gets very cold. But nice comfy mattress up there and really great painting! The Murphy bed is perfectly safe except for small children. I generally wouldn’t recommend the house for small children...too many places to fall. The dungeon is actually really cool and has a nice full size bed down there. We didn’t use it because we didn’t need to, but it is an option. The kitchen is nice and totally equipped. The place as a whole is a bit rough around the edges, but you aren’t going there to have a Hilton hotel experience (perfect and boring). It’s really cool. Enjoy the view. Nice natural cacti garden on the hill above. Play pool or ping pong on the deck. There’s a good TV my kids hooked up their Nintendo to. Lots to do in Tucson! We enjoyed the PIMA air and space museum and both sides of Saguaro National Park and some hiking. It’s way prettier there than I imagined.

  • Great place, master piece in progress

    4 of 5

Really felt like a castle, my 12 year old loved his room in the tower. My favorite was the dungeon. Need to be young at heart to stay there. Master bedroom was fantastic. Cool place, a work in progress. Daniel was a good host and has a neat vision. Scott from KS

  • Fun

    4 of 5

Another thing about this property not mentioned in the reviews I read is that there is access from the property to the trail system at Tucson Mountain Park. Miles and miles of trails! Great cactus and ocotillo groves and views! Plus great horned owls were hooting on the roof the night we arrived.

  • Fun and relaxing

We were in town for my son's baseball games at the Kino Complex. We had a great time and enjoyed the Castle. Dan was a great host and helped make our stay enjoyable. We look forward to coming back in a couple years and seeing the new additions to the place.

  • unique property

    3 of 5

Very interesting and unique property. Still a work in progress with unfinished areas in main floor bath. Upstairs bedroom in the tower was a kids' favorite, however the dungeon was a little too creepy for any of them to feel comfortable sleeping in. Great views off of the balcony, especially at sunrise/sunset. Central location in South Tucson near I-19 and I-10 interchange. Owner lives in apartment on lower level and available for any concerns/needs.

  • Unique house near some of the best sites in Tucson!

    5 of 5

This place might not be for everyone. It has uneven stone floors, swords on many walls, steep narrow stairs and, yes, even a dungeon. But, if you’re open to an unique experience that will add fantasy and whim to your Tucson visit, then we highly recommend that you stay at Mollohan Castle! The owner, Danny, is a kind, friendly and helpful host. In fact, his peaceful personality is a contrast to the armed castle-theme, and that just adds to this memorable and eclectic Tucson experience. My husband and I, our college-aged daughter, two teen-aged sons and a friend all stayed here comfortably over a long weekend. My youngest son was a little spooked by the visit to the dungeon when we first arrived. But even he warmed up to the castle theme and was soon exploring the place, and was especially charmed by the outdoor spiral stairway. We all had a great time here. The house is close to the Saguaro National Park, where we spent a lot of the weekend, and it was easy to drive back into town for fun shopping and dinner in the evenings.

  • A unique experience

    3 of 5

Dan Reese, the owner, was an excellent host and accommodated our every need. The "Castle" is a very unique structure and very interesting attributes. Additionally, the view has to be one of the best in the area. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable as was the living room. The kitchen is adequately equipped for relatively simple meals. On the down side, it seems that this facility is still a work in progress. The only small shower is located on the second level and access is difficult because a fold-down bed consumes half the stairway. Furthermore, the overall experience would be improved if unused/unnecessary equipment were removed from the building and the surrounding area. Access to the "Castle" can be an issue because our GPS led us to a road, Cook, that dead ends. Must use Brown to access the unimproved road to the "Castle" that has an impressive entrance.

  • Stunning views and loads of personality!

    5 of 5

We very much enjoyed staying at this unique property. The views can't be beat and we enjoyed spending time on the patio. Would be a great property to host an event as it is very spacious. Danny was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again.

  • VERY cool place to stay, million dollar views!

    5 of 5

My wife and I with our two Boys 13 & 15 recently stayed 3 nights in the castle on our trip out West. Loved it, had a total blast, excellent location to do all the Tucson stuff. The Castle was totally unique, very adventuresome, great family environment if your family likes fun - probably not for the wimpy and pampered high-maintenance families. Beautiful Saguaro cactus hill right behind the house, which the Boys and I hiked with flashlights several nights. The evening views of Tucson from the castle Terraces are awesome. Owner Danny was super easy to work with and very attentive. Would definitely stay there again! Brad, Jacksonville, Florida

  • It's not for everyone

    3 of 5

Mollohan Castle is an incredibly unique property. As such, it has unique idiosyncrasies. It was fun to stay there. The views are wonderful. The floors are made of stone. This makes it a bit hard on your feet if you don't want to wear shoes all the time. The bed in the main bedroom was really comfortable! I, personally, liked the blackout curtains. The kitchen is adequate. The furniture in the sitting area could use an upgrade. The "house" is still a work in progress. We would stay there again, but for a shorter period of time.

  • What a great place to relax and watch the sunrise or set. Highly recommended.

    5 of 5

We flew to Arizona to surprise my daughter, and her family.. not only were they surprised about being able to spend the weekend with us but we were able to hang out in a castle. My grand babies are 2, 5 and 2 months. The children had so much fun exploring the castle and property. We spent our time hanging out around the table, playing games, laughing and enjoying each others company. We grilled out, enjoyed playing pool and making memories around the fire, watching the sunrise and set and have tons of pictures to remember our amazing trip. My youngest daughter absolutely loved the princess tower. She immediately chose to sleep in the tower as soon as she laid eyes on it. We could have never had the experience and fun that we did if we had stayed in a hotel. This is a fantastic home away from home and I will stay here again when we travel to Arizona in the future. The owner was very welcoming and added to the wonderful experience. I highly recommend the property. Thank you for making our stay unforgettable.

  • GREAT FIND! Mollohan Castle

    4 of 5

GREAT FIND! We travel a lot and Mollohan Castle was a unique alternative to hotels and B&B's. It is eclectic, fun and authentically cool. We loved the hiking trail outside the back door, and close proximity to Mt. Lemon is a huge convenience. The massive rose quartz boulder in the living room is a conversation piece as is the statuary on the grounds. Easting dinner on the veranda in the evening, watching the sunset, or just hanging out listening to the coyotes howling is a unique experience. The kitchen is spacious for prepping meals and eating in, the beds are very comfortable, having the laundry is a bonus. The moat in the front of the property was overgrown and could use some TLC. Additional lighting in the rear of the property would be helpful especially when coming back in the dark. Ellen & Gerry

  • Magical Thanksgiving Weekend in the Castle

    5 of 5

Thank you Danny for a most enjoyable stay in your vacation rental. Your place is charming and made for a special Thanksgiving weekend celebration with my family. The Castle was exactly as we expected - funky, unique, and fully accommodating for the seven of us. We had a really great time!!

  • Novel Stay

    5 of 5

Our family had a great stay at the castle. We hiked, played pool, and spent some good quality time together. The castle was the most unusual place we have stayed in, with a private room on the third floor and a dungeon in the basement. Plenty of room for the four of us.

  • Mollohan Castle

    3 of 5

The Mollohan Castle is a very unique property with a lot of potential. Our four children loved exploring the Castle and there are unlimited quirks and neat things in the house. Our host was very gracious and informative. He presented us with several options of restaurants and local attractions. Despite living on-site, we never were aware of his presence in the five days we were there aside from when he met us to orient us on the first day. It is not for those looking for luxury and creature comforts as there is no dishwasher or laundry dryer (the desert air does a good job of drying though). For those travelling with children, the sleeping arrangements outside of the master bedroom are unusual - a murphy bed that fold over the staircase, a bed in a dungeon with trap-door access, a bed in the living room, and a bed in the dome at the top of the house. It takes some planning around bedtime as the only shower is upstairs and once the murphy bed is down, you can't get up the stairs to access it. No big deal but we didn't clue in until the kids were asleep already. Great selection of spices (Penzey's) in the kitchen and good fridge and stove if you want to prepare your own food. Nice grill on the deck as well. Very clean house. Overall, one of the most unique buildings we have stayed in with very cool, fascinating decor. Just needs a bit of finishing work to make it more functional for a bigger family. For a small family would work quite well.
