  • Extraordinary Experience

    5 of 5

We stayed at the Thimble Pass house for two weeks in January. Things we loved about the house: -Beautiful, winding single-track driveway from the gate to the house. You don't need to go hiking to appreciate the beauty of the rocks and cacti of Tucson. Just drive in and out. -Gracious and helpful hostess, Malissa, who greeted us upon arrival and responded to our needs throughout our stay. -Wonderful location with beautiful views up the canyon and over the City from the patios and indoors. -Unique architecture with high windows letting in light and providing views in all directions. -Views of cacti and rocks from the shower stall. Now that is a first. -The absolute quiet. -Stars, even visible from the Master Bedroom. Milky Way visible from the patio. -Waking up with the sun on the rocks in the morning. Ending the day with the sun on the rocks in the evening. -Expansive and diverse library. We discovered wonderful new authors. -The family (adults and piglings) of Javelina who wandered by. -The Road Runner who came so often we thought he might be a pet. -Snow on the rocks and cacti on New Year's Morning! We really enjoyed our stay. Many thanks to Malissa and the owners!

  • Made our 50th anniversary a wonderful celebration. We met and were married in Tucson

    5 of 5

The house is one of a kind...absolutely beautiful...scenery is breathtaking...very peaceful. Remote enough to enjoy complete peace and nature's true beauty but close enough to enjoy restaurants and grocery stores, etc within 10 min. Malissa is so nice and always helpful with any requests. She was very friendly but never intrusive. I have a new friend. It has been many, many years since we have been back to Tucson. Lots and lots of changes. We spent 2 weeks revisiting memories. We started our mornings watching the reflection of the sun coming down the mountain as we had our coffee on the porch. We looked forward spending our late afternoons and evenings sitting on the porch listing to the animals come alive as the sun went down, the moon come over the mountain and the lights come on down town. A truly beautiful paradise.

We loved how this place felt like we were at the edge of civilization and we only had to step outside the door to enjoy nature and it's incredible surroundings!

Mercy, Lord! photos don't do it justice! I'm reluctant to let everyone in on how AMAZING this spot is, but it would seem selfish to not do so. A face-melting retreat if you can accept the fact that it is a bit removed from it all... but not that much! Malissa is a fabulous host. photos really don't do justice. PLEEEEASE don't come down the week we want to return... ;) how many stars can we give? **********

  • Amazing escape to dramatic beauty and comfort.

    5 of 5

We loved our time at this home. It was so unique and interesting with it's lovely furnishings, excellent bed, beautiful art and superb collection of interesting books. This home has 5 terrace or patio areas, all lovely. It has 3 fireplaces and beautiful views out each window. At this home, you are out in a private area at the edge of a canyon. The only downside at all is the road into this property. We had a pickup truck which made it easier. It is a serious dirt road with some hills and it is also narrow. The place is well worth it and I hope you choose this house for your next vacation to Tucson. Malissa, the caretaker, is fabulous. She is the kind of person you wish you lived close to so you could be ongoing friends. You couldn't ask for a more delightful person to deal with and visit with. We were close to restaurants, a grocery store and Sabino Canyon which was a wonderful place to hike. We took the tram up the canyon and walked down. It was beautiful.

  • Wonderful secluded home

    5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week here. The house is great with so much room. It is secluded and one can sit on any one of the three patios and enjoy the Canyon and not hear any noise. Malissa was very helpful and gracious. A real find.

Amazingly private retreat for two. Enjoyed all the windows, patios and views. Experienced local hiking, sunny days, star filled skies and built many fires in the library on the cool nights. Only thing missing is a pool. Malissa is so helpful, yet gives you total privacy.

  • Oasis in Tucson

    5 of 5

What a gorgeous getaway! My husband and I were in Tucson visiting friends and searching for a winter home. This home is truly set against the mountains; there is nothing between you and the beauty of the desert. The home's unique architecture makes it one of a kind and the views from four patios are spectacular. We spent New Year's Eve on the back patio star gazing with glasses of wine. This would be a perfect romantic getaway spot for any couple. Malissa was a wonderful host; she lives next door.

  • Spectacular Canyon Mansion with all the comforts and tons of wildlife

    5 of 5

We VRBO a lot, and this home is at the top of the list of the most spectacular we have ever rented. The home is an architectural masterpiece with an expansive lodge-like feel. Exposed beams, high ceilings, coated concrete floors, glass doors and windows everywhere, you feel like you have moved into the cover home of Architectural Digest. Great porches with amazing views, wonderful for cooking with a gas grill, sub zero fridge, viking range, etc. The home is nested into the canyon, and is accessed through the gated Ventana Canyon neighborhood, one of the most exclusive in Tucson. Despite the canyon location, the internet and cell phone connections worked great, never an outage or lost signal. The wi-fi works throughout the home and on the verandas. The home is well stocked, including field guides to birds, desert flora and fauna, etc. The property is managed by Malissa Miranda, who was responsive from my first inquiry through the end of our booking. She will actually answer her phone! She has all the answers, and will orient you to the neighborhood and activities available, in addition to providing lots of written information too! She is so efficient, but also kind with a great sense of humor! There are lots of shops and restaurants just outside the neighborhood or nearby. Tucson traffic is sparse compared to big cities, so nothing is that far away. The house is close to many great parks and hiking trails, and there is actually one in the neighborhood. Golf is available on two courses that wind through the canyon below. Among the "best of all"s were the animals we saw. We saw two bobcats, the second time he was laying outside our bedroom door taking a cat nap. We also saw javelina, bunnies, road runners, box turtles, lizards, frogs and toads!!! Thank you, Malissa, for the greatest stay, we can hardly wait to see you again and wholeheartedly recommend your property to other guests.

  • Phenomenal setting

    5 of 5

This is an incredible setting up in the Ventana Canyon, where you can sit on the verandas and/or multiple patios and enjoy the amazing bird life and admire the many cactus types and canyon geography. The house location is truly phenomenal, no ambient light, no sounds but the birds, private and secluded. Malissa is delightful, a joy to correspond with and provided a very helpful "orientation" to the house, and even provided the best lemonade ever! Although she lives across the patio, she goes out of her way to respect your privacy, The kitchen has everything needed, with high end appliances. The bedroom is comfortable and very spacious. There is more space than two people could ever need for a restful and relaxing retreat and vacation. We cannot wait to return! It was really hard to leave.

  • Wow, what a beautiful location.

    5 of 5

The setting for this house is amazing - close to Tucson, but totally secluded in Esperero Canyon. The house is very roomy and comfortable. We very much enjoyed staying here. Sitting out on the patio in the canyon watching birds, listening to the running stream, the sound of Elf Owls and Canyon Tree Frogs under the stars was all very relaxing. We definitely would stay here again.

  • Spectacular Property in the Catalina Foothills

    5 of 5

My wife and I spent a fantastic week at this property near Ventana Canyon in the Tucson metropolitan area the first week of March. We highly recommend this property. The house is magnificent with a setting that places it on a private road right against the mountains. The views of the Saguaro cacti that surround the property are impressive and the desert scenery is matched by a stunning night time view of Tuscon down in the valley. We particularly enjoyed being on the west patio which is cantilevered over the canyon stream. Here, we listened to the water while the sun set and then enjoyed the lights of Tucson as they began to glow in the distance. Frogs serenaded us one evening, javelinas ran by another, and for birdwatchers like us -- this was paradise! The house is architecturally stunning. It's expansive windows are complemented by the beamed vaulted ceilings, an up-to-date modern kitchen with plenty of storage space for pantry items, fresh fruits, vegetables and anything else you might want to pick up from the nearby supermarket. The master bedroom has a fireplace, a walk-in shower, and separate outdoor entrances. All appliances and furnishings worked perfectly. The property manager lives in a small casita across a courtyard from the main house. She is absolutely wonderful. She is very responsive and will ensure your visit is perfect and that you have everything you need. This property is located in northeast Tucson. It provides easy access to the Catalina Foothills, Sabino Canyon, Tanque Verde, Agua Caliente Park, the Catalina Highway up Mount Lemmon, and the Rincons. If you have never been to Tucson, please note that downtown Tucson and I-10 on the west side are about thirty minutes because Tucson does not have a cross-town expressway. Thus, my wife and I feel that part of the charm of Tucson is cruising down its broad boulevards with the windows open, the sun shining in, and the Arizona Sky Island mountains surrounding you on all four sides. We are bird watchers that spend a week in Tucson each year. If you are bird watchers like us then we can tell you that the property around the house has resident Anna's and Broadbilled hummingbirds, Cactus Wren, Canyon Wren, Vermillion Flycatchers, Curve-billed Thrashers and others. Also, you can make all the major Tucson birding locations within 30 to 45 minutes. Trips to Madera Canyon, Patagonia, and many other Important Bird Areas are an easy day trip from this wonderful house.

  • Beautiful home in beautiful setting

    5 of 5

We were the first guests at this VRBO and were impressed. The home itself is lovely, nestled in the foothills. It had everything we needed for our stay. The kitchen is well-equipped for cooking, the bed is comfortable, the home both roomy and cozy. Malissa, the host, communicated well and was available for anything we needed... very accommodating. One thing that surprised us was that Malissa does stay on the property as well (not in the house, but she stays across a small patio). But, we hardly noticed her. She is very respectful of the privacy of the renters and was available for anything we needed. I would stay again in a heartbeat.
