  • Private space in fantastic location for hikers / nature exploration

    5 of 5

We stayed for three nights in mid-February 2019. The property is situated on the NE corner of greater Tucson, close to the Catalina highway. We stayed here because of the proximity to Mount Lemmon and the Catalina mountains. The space is detached from the owner's house. The owner is an artist and the walls are decorated with some nice examples of his work. There is plenty of room for two. The main space serves as sleeping quarters, and TV / lounge area. There is a back porch with seating and a BBQ. The kitchen area features a microwave, firdge and freezer. The only "odd" thing is that there is no kitchen sink; we stacked our dirties in a bowl and the owner took care of it from there; it was not an issue. the bathroom is spacious, the water pressure fine and the water hot. it takes a minute to warm up, a long feed pipe to the shower. We would highly recommend the property if you want to be in this area of Tucson. It's a stretch to the downtown area, but not insurmountable.

  • Great place! Highly recommended!

We stayed for 4 days at the Catalina Ranch Estates in February of 2019. The guest suite was large, very clean and attractively furnished. It was very thoughtfully equipped, with everything we needed, including high quality disposable plates, silverware, and coffee. The king sized bed was extremely comfortable. We sat out on the very private porch and drank wine in the evenings after hiking all day. We had a wonderful time and hope to return!

  • Private, cozy, clean, beautiful views.

    5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. It was clean and met all our needs. The king bed was very comfortable. They have a kitchenette not a full kitchen but we knew that when we booked. We made use of the bbq outside on our private patio. They even refreshed our towels after a few days. They also provided coffee for us. We enjoy our privacy and we had that here. Close to attractions on the east side of Tucson.

  • Quiet, Comfortable, Peaceful

    5 of 5

Very pleasant, clean accommodations. Rarely saw Tom but when needed when we locked ourselves out, he responded within fifteen minutes. We intend to come back to Tucson and will consider Catalina Ranch again. It is close to Saguaro East, Sabino Canyon, the DeGrazia Gallery, and the Catalinas.

  • The best kept secret in Tucson!

    5 of 5

My husband and I were very pleasantly surprised when we opened the door to our little Casita at the Javelina Homestead... it was bigger, brighter and even prettier than the pictures. We spent 10 days...and have already reserved for three weeks in the fall. The proximity to the Saguaro National Park, Sabino Canyon and the Biking Loop made it a perfect location. Restaurants and groceries are about three miles away. Great sunsets off the back porch...every night! The owners, Tom and Bonnie, were very accommodating. One helpful hint if you are visiting in December/January... pack warm clothes! We might also recommend Broadway Bicycles for bike rentals and of course you must visit Tanque Verde Ranch and see or ride the horses. It is about ten minutes away and open to the public daily! This was our first visit to Tucson, but we see many more visits for hiking and biking in our very near future. We’re hoping we can always stay in The Sweeney’s Casita!

Spent a week here. Loved swinging on the backporch waiting on a ribeye. Views are gorgeous The moonrise come up from mountainside all while on the swing. Plenty of parks with nature trails. Host was around yet gave us our privacy. Great place to stay..

  • Charming Casita

    5 of 5

My husband and I rented this casita for a cycling vacation. It couldn’t have been more perfect for us. The casita is located just off Catalina Highway which is the road to Mt. Lemmon. It is a separate casita from the main house with use of their in ground pool, making it very private. The casita itself was very charming, clean and quiet. Tom was very helpful when needed, but did not intrude on our privacy. The location is perfect; close enough to the main roads, but just far enough out for quiet and privacy. We stayed here as a base for our cycling adventures, but it would be good for anyone wanting to explore Tucson.

  • A nice desert retreat...

    5 of 5

Very peaceful, private retreat. A great place to hang out and easy access to the Catalina Mts. Hikes, picnicing, great views and easy to get to all that Tucson has to offer. Saguaro National Park, Desert Museum, art, thrift shops etc.

  • Best place ever to enjoy Tucson

    5 of 5

My wife and I have stayed at the "desert house" for a couple of years now......honestly we would not stay anywhere else. It is always very clean, quite, private, relaxing. On our most recent stay we had some issues with our vehicle and Tom went above and beyond to give us some assistance. Tim & Abbie

Exactly as represented. The Trader Joe coffee was great; we bought some to bring back. Easy location to get around from, golf close buy and a trip up to MT Lemmon was great, waited for the sunset on the way down.

  • Javalina Homestead the perfect spot to make more memories.

    5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the foothills of the Catalina Mts. Wow, the beauty all around was stunning. We loved relaxing with coffee on the back patio after a day of exploring! Our accommodations were wonderful- private, quiet, safe, comfortable, with everything we needed for our weeks visit to the desert including wildlife in the back yard. This was a great location for seeing the many sights of the Tucson area, easy access to hiking, shows, gardens, museums, historical attractions, shopping, and restaurants. We couldn't have had a more memorable anniversary!

The property was exactly as described. Thomas was a gracious host. The location was convenient to Mt. Lemmon and Sabino Canyon as well as restaurants and shopping. The privacy of the guest house allowed us to relax and enjoy the warm afternoons and colorful sunsets in peace and quiet. We intend to return to Tucson and Javelina House is where we will want to stay.

  • Wonderful views, lovely accommodations, peaceful

    5 of 5

We appreciated the comfortable and spacious room, the well-supplied kitchen and bath areas, the outdoor setting, privacy and quiet. It was worth the extra drive from the main part of the city. We highly recommend this property and hope we have a chance to return in the future.

  • Relaxing stay

    5 of 5

The guest house was just as it was described. The location was perfect for us. The property is in the country with great views of the mountains and desert landscape, however; it is close enough to easily get into town and on the highway! The one pleasant surprise were the paintings in the guest house! Thomas is a talented artist and his works adorn the home.

  • If you are seeking a private, quiet retreat to decompress, write, or go adventuring look no further.

    5 of 5

Available and welcoming, Thomas & Bonnie have set up a lovely studio with views to the Sky Islands, the stars, and the desert garden. After a day of hiking, play lizard by the pool, or enjoy the sights and sounds of downtown Tucson. Kitt Peak Observatory is within reach for those who want to go deep into space. The hiking through the Saguaro forest is unmatched and proves again how full of life the desert is. Don't miss the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum if you love natural history or botany. If you want to go to sleep listening to great horned owls and awake to desert birdsong, this is the place. The spacious studio is furnished with charming antiques, and offers a gracious bath and walk in closet with skylights, a cozy kitchenette and a gas grill on the covered patio. Studio is warmly decorated with desert tones and Thomas' juicy oil paintings of nearby surroundings. Two bottles of wine anticipate your arrival, along with serene desert quietude.

We really enjoyed our two days. Self contained suite was tastefully decorated and comfortable. Outdoor patio and pool areas were wonderful, particularly with the hot temperatures. Lots of shade. Setting was quiet and natural with great views. Lots of varied hiking trails close by.

  • Perfect Place to Stay in Tucson

    5 of 5

This is a well-maintained property. The guest suite is as described, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The suite is spacious and well-appointed with a very comfortable bed. The location was very convenient to the places we visited while in Tucson: Saguaro National Park, Sabrino Canyon, and the Mount Lemmon road. It was so relaxing to come back to the guest suite each evening and enjoy a leisurely supper on the patio. We especially appreciated having a gas grill on the patio. If we vacation again in Tucson, this will be our first choice of where to stay.

  • Wonderful place to be in, in Tucson! Location, and all!

    5 of 5

Even better than the photos online! Great location in a beautiful, quiet setting. Very clean and appointed. The ONLY drawback is no stove, but there is a gas grill on the patio. So, not a real inconvenience. Would stay here again!
