The property, even in the winter months, is warm and inviting. But this doesn´t come close to describing Don and Candy the owners, or should I say "hosts”. Thank you Don and Candy, my husband and I had a great wedding anniversary celebration in Payson because of our time spent at "A Shore Thing”!

My husband and I spent three nights at "A Shore Thing” and enjoyed every minute of it. Don and Candy are a delightful couple who have taken the time to make sure their guests are comfortable. They had the heaters on, so it was warm when we arrived, which was great, because it was chilly outside. There was a beautiful gift basket with tasty treats and coffee and muffins for the morning! We enjoyed the little patio (it has a gas fire pit and BBQ). It is decorated so cute too, it´s obvious they enjoy having people stay at their property, they have put a lot of effort into making sure things are just right. Thanks to you both! This was one of our all-time favorites during our two-week vacation in Arizona. A Shore Thing was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, and supplied with all the amenities we needed. Although the cottage was totally private, Don and Candy were extremely helpful with information about Payson and the beautiful surrounding area. And Don, there just happens to be a MRF therapist in our small town! I'll be looking into that.

5.0   -   The best vacation spot ever! We were so blessed to have stayed in this impressive hideaway

From the moment we arrived we felt like we were coming home with family. Don and Candy were so attentive and we were pampered in this lovely little home where our needs were perfectly met right down to the hidden chocolate kisses in the bedroom. Every detail of our cabin stay was afforded and we have the Brooks to thank for that. We enjoyed solitude when we wanted but were invited to join in group festivities that were sooo fun. We were blessed to be invited to a church service that was Spirit filled and moving. I can´t remember a time when we enjoyed going to church while we were on vacation so much. This was one of the best vacations we have been on and the best getaway spots around. It is truly a hidden gem in the beautiful outskirts of Payson. We were truly blessed by Don and Candy and their exemplary attention to detail. A Shore Thing is the perfect weekend retreat and We will definitely come back to this hideaway on the Mogollݳn Rim and tell everyone how amazing our stay truly was. Thank you Don and Candy! We love you and thank God he put you in our lives. You are blessed in the gift of hospitality. With blessings and joy, Rob and Brenda White

A Shore Thing is a lovely getaway. Don & Candy are perfect hosts and really go the extra mile to make your stay comfortable and and relaxing. They included several little touches that made our stay extra special. They truly understand hospitality! The location is perfect. Close enough to town to enjoy the many events in Payson and the surrounding area but tucked away just enough to feel like you are away from the hustle & bustle. We spent almost all of our time there out on the beautiful deck area just listening to nature. We even had an elk stop by to visit one evening during dinner. We can't say enough good things about our weekend away, it was just what we needed to unplug and recharge our souls. We hope to go back for another visit soon.

Candy and Don are really friendly and helpful with local information, activities and restaurants. We spent much of the time on the private outdoor patio. The property is beautiful with lots of trees and a water feature and fire pit. Not only is it relaxing but lots of fun spending time at "A Shore Thing” and the town of Payson. We highly recommend it.

This is why we use VRBO. We never would have found this hidden gem on our own. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Don & Candy were excellent hosts. Their little added touches, muffins, cookies, wine were greatly appreciated. The cabin is tastefully decorated in a nautical theme. The outside private patio is a great place to relax. From the initial reservation to the last wave goodbye, dealing with Don and Candy to reserve "A Shore Thing” was very pleasant. The property was clean and cozy. It had all the amenities to provide a relaxing and comfortable vacation. We especially enjoyed having our breakfast on the patio garden. Payson is a nice alternative destination if Sedona is too busy. We definitely will plan to come back.

We had such a wonderful stay at this perfectly decorated nautical 1 bedroom cottage in a canyon in Payson with some of the most spectacular mountain views. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bed was very comfortable. It was extremely peaceful watching the many varieties of birds at the feeders in the yard while relaxing with a glass of wine in the beautiful serene setting. The owners (Don and Candy Brooks) were polite and went out of their way to make us feel welcome! We will definitely stay there again when we visit!

The home had all the necessities one would need and was a quick drive into the town of Payson and to all the natural beauty surrounding this area. Don and Candy were gracious hosts and we will be planning to come back to a "shore thing”

Our long birthday weekend was crammed full of beautiful weather, vistas and experiences, from Tonto National Park in Payson, to the wondrous magnificence of the south rim of Grand Canyon, to the cultural extremes of Sedona. But we were always happy to return to the charming, cozy home away from home–a Shore Thing thoughtfully created and lovingly maintained by Don and Candy. Our last night enjoying wine and snacks and good conversation with our amazing hosts and new friends around their lovely fire pit was the highlight of a wonderful vacation.

Oh my! Where do I begin?? My husband and I spent 10 days at A Shore Thing and what a wonderful 10 days it was. Candy met us upon our arrival and helped us settle in. The cottage is absolutely adorable with everything you need to feel right at home. The countryside is breathtaking as we explored Payson, Pine/Strawberry and Star Valley, and the restaurants and Tap Rooms we encountered along the way were pretty good too . . . BBQ, Pizza, Italian and a good 'ole country breakfast, to mention a few. We were lucky to be in town during the County Fair, and Saturday's Farmer's Market (behind Chili's) where we picked up all sorts of edible goodies! We enjoyed antiquing and visual reminders of our own childhood. Cocktails on the deck surrounded by Candy's beautiful garden, hummingbirds and the sounds of nature. One evening, on our way back to the cottage, we came face-to-face with a beautiful deer who was statuesque and AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL!! We enjoyed our time with Don and Candy learning about their travels and time spent in the area, but the big night was Payson Idol competitions at The Elk's Lodge. We enjoyed the competition (although we got there a little late) and Friday night Karaoke which followed. Payson has talent is all I've got to say!! Everyone we encountered was as friendly as can be and we walked away with many new friends. The pace is relaxed and very low-key, exactly what we were looking for, so if that's what you have in mind for your next getaway, this is the place for you!! Thank you Don and Candy for a lovely stay!

Thank you Don & Candy for a lovely getaway at your cozy cabin. All is as it appears on the website, clean home, well maintained & we enjoyed staying at your home very much. Any issues that we had were promptly addressed & they were all very minor things, like how to turn off outside lights at night for example. We will have to wait until next time to see elk but otherwise all was just right! -Lauren & Helen

We spent three days at A Shore Thing, an adorable one-bedroom cottage about five minutes north of Payson. There's so much to do in the area, I don't have time to list it here, you'll just have to look it up. From the manicured gardens and feeders, where we spent many a morning and evening under the trees listening to the wind and the birds, to the impeccably clean and exquisitely appointed interior--with a VERY comfy queen bed, fully-equipped kitchen (coffee included) two TV's with cable, DVD's, books, charging station for electronics, wifi, AC/heat--everything was perfect and so well-thought out. To our delight, when we made our reservation, Don and Candy asked if we had a wine preference, and a bottle was waiting for us--along with snacks, fresh fruit, candy, cookies, even a gift. Don and Candy are warm, kind and wonderful hosts-there if you need them, but not intrusive if you want to spend time alone together, as my husband and I did. These folks should run a five-star hotel! Thank you, Don and Candy, we will be back!
