Exceptional! 5/5

(23 traveler reviews)

  • clean, open, light, quiet and most agreeable!

    5 of 5

This is a fourth return to this property, and my husband and I keep going back because it is an additive experience. The on-site owner could not be more accommodating to our needs. The space is attractive and spacious enough day and night for eating, sleeping, reading, tv viewing, but very conveniently located to the daily outdoor activity and side trips we seek. Love it! And have signed up for another stay.

  • Vermilion Sunsets

    5 of 5

If you are interested in experiencing the Sonoran Desert around Tucson, then this is the place for you. We had the privilege of spending two weeks in this quiet and comfortable casita, near Saguaro National Park West. The west-side location is great for easy access to hiking trails within the national park and the Tucson Mountain Park, to the wonderful Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum, and to Kitt Peak observatory. Cynthia, our host, could not have been more friendly and attentive. Also, she is not exaggerating when she describes the casita as having "endless views sunrise to sunset". We experienced both amazingly beautiful pink sunrises and vermilion sunsets during our stay. We agree with most of the comments in the previous 5-star reviews, but perhaps the best recommendation is that we sincerely hope to return for another visit again someday.

  • Perfect Find

    5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay so much we are hesitant to share our knowledge of this little gem in the desert. The entire experience met and exceeded our expectations. The owner reached out in advance with clear instructions, including letting us know what was and wasn't available in the kitchen so we could plan accordingly, and stayed in touch just enough to make sure we had what we needed. The casita is beautifully laid out and designed for both comfort and function. It is also full of thoughtful touches that makes it feel more like home away from home than a hotel or other short-term rental. Best of all is the location. It is privately situated in the Sonoran Desert, and even though the owner's residence is right next door, the orientation of the casita made us feel like we had the desert to ourselves. The view faces west meaning that each day ends with a beautiful desert sunset. I would highly recommend this property!

  • Wonderful casita in the Sonoran Desert

    5 of 5

Large one room newer home on 5 acres of open desert - 100 ft. away from the main home and a lovely pool.Views of the lush desert every where you turn. Small kitchen is stocked with all you need to cook your meals. Close to Saguaro West National Park and the Arizona- Sonora Desert Museum. It's a beautiful 15 mile drive through Tucson Mountain Park to the bulk of the city of Tucson. If you are visiting to see this amazing desert, this casita can't be beat!!

The casita was everything we expected! Beautiful views, wonderful sunsets. Cynthia made sure we had everything we needed and recommended great restaurants. We loved the location only a few miles from the Saguaro National Park.

  • At home right from the start!

    5 of 5

Even before we arrived, we felt at home. Cynthia had the answer to every question before it was asked. Casita Luminosa was everything that was promised plus much, much more! We spent 16 wonderful nights on the road, but our three nights at the casita were the highlight! Super clean and wonderfully equipped. There were items that I would never have thought of but it was all covered and so beautifully. The grounds are outstandingly well landscaped with natural Sonora Desert cacti and other natural plants and the wildlife was always on hand to help us enjoy our stay as well. You couldn't add anything to the wonderful place! I sincerely hope that I can get back to Tucson soon and stay there again! Cynthia! Thank you more than I can say for your hospitality! Joe Cosner

  • Perfect comfort out in the desert

    5 of 5

We were thoroughly pleased with the Luminosa casita. The simple casita is perfectly furnished with everything for comfort and efficiency- cooking, laundry, good bath/shower, good bed, plenty of comfortable seating. Plus the desert is right outside the door, with distant views of the mountains, and close up sightings of birds and desert planting’s. Patio seating all around, so it is always possible to find best spot for sun, shade, wind, etc. great location to access to Suguaro National Park and Tucson Desert Museum - easy to hit either spot for best early morning hiking and viewing. The owner, Cynthia, was charming, and super easy to communicate with. We have high hopes of returning!

  • Lots of nice extra touches to this property stay

    5 of 5

Our family (three adults) had a perfect stay and enjoyed lots of extra touches, including the fabulous sunsets, bbq, clean well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, beautiful gardens, and especially we enjoyed the warm and friendly hospitality. Thank you Cynthia for taking so much time to ensure we had all our questions answered, and learned lots about this area of AZ.

  • Peace and Quiet and Total Immersion in Nature

    5 of 5

This is the second time we've stayed here but it won't be the last. We love the casita. Its location so close to the Desert Museum, Tucson Mountain Park and Saguaro National Park West is perfect for us. We get up each morning and head to the Museum for our free members' coffee and a bird walk or a raptor flight demo or just to wander around admiring the vegetation. In the evening, we return to watch sunset from the back patio and pull together a home-cooked meal. One of the highlights of our trip this time was the evening program at Kitt Peak, something we've been wanting to do for a long time. It was worth the wait. Cynthia is a wonderful host, checking in often to make sure we had everything we needed. We did. We'll be back...again and again.

Excellent secluded stay in the Sonoran Desert. The owner was receptive to our every need and respected our privacy. If you love nature and seclusion with luxury, this is the place. Only 10 minutes from the west side of Saguaro National Park and Mountain Desert Museum and an hour from the east side of the park. The sunsets are so awesome you want to be back at the casita every evening.

  • Beautiful quiet escape in the desert

    5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Casita Luminosa over New Years weekend. Cynthia was a very gracious and helpful host. The casita is thougtfully decorated and has everything needed for a comfortable stay for up to four people. The desert is right outside the door with numerous saguaro cactus on the property. Keep in mind that the casita is about a 40 minute drive from downtown Tucson so be thoughtful in how you structure your stay. The casita is very close to the Desert Museum, Old Tucson, Tucson Mountain Park and the west unit of Saguaro National Park.

  • Clean and comfortable!

    5 of 5

Loved this place! Cynthia was an absolute joy! She called or texted (not obnoxiously) almost every day to see if there was anything we needed. Beautiful sunrise and sunset EVERY day!!! Secluded, but not to far from town for us. Wildlife galore. Just a great place for couples.

  • Great Little Gem in the Desert - Cozy, Private, Lovely

    5 of 5

My wife and I stayed for 3 days and they were wonderful. We wish we could have stayed longer. The desert grounds were beautiful with a surprising diversity of plant life, tons of birds & rabbits and coyotes yipping in the near distance. Watched the sun rise over the mountains in the east and set over the range in the west. The wrap-around patio made it easy to find a shady spot if the sun was too much. The casita was equally lovely and extremely well kept. We loved the local hand made soaps. Comfy bed and den furniture, TV with tons of channels, and a kitchen with everything you need. The washer/dryer was a great help also. If cool nights, sleep with the window open to hear the coyotes sing....TOO COOL!! A definite winner for those folks who like to get away from the rat race and enjoy nature and privacy. It was easy to get to Tucson and various local attractions, but it was so nice at the casita, that we spent every afternoon just enjoying it, reading, napping, watching sunsets, etc. Cynthia was very responsive when booking and as the date grew near. Checking in was a breeze and the departure prep was as well. Cynthia stopped by the 1st afternoon to welcome us and answer questions and offer advice, but respected our privacy (even with her house close by, we felt like we were all alone out in the desert....in a very nice place, of course). It was comforting to know she was only a short walk or text away if we needed anything. Overall, without question, our best "home stay" experience. Could not have asked for a nicer setting or cozier casita. Cynthia is to be applauded for creating and sharing this gem with us.

  • Magical

    5 of 5

We had an amazing time. The home is everything as shown in the pictures and more. Perfect for us. Wrap around porch, the sunsets, the sunrise, the birds, the stars, the landscape...so much to do around this area. The Desert Museum and Kitt Peak were the most amazing and memorable. Wow. The host could not have been more gracious. Info about the area provided for us in the home was stellar. Cynthia was helpful, kind, engaging -- a lovely, funny person. Our only regret is that we had to leave!! We hope someday our paths will cross again. A very special place. Thank you!

  • Perfect property for privacy, relaxation, desert birds and wildlife.

    5 of 5

Cynthia provides a cozy, perfect-size casita that has everything needed for a great stay. Comfortable bed, quiet, cool nights for sleeping. As avid birdwatchers, we loved seeing over 18 species of birds from the back patio. Photography opportunities were everywhere we looked! The pool was a joy on those 90 degree days. Casita Luminosa is a lovely place for those who want to experience the peace of the desert. Had we chosen to explore Tucson, it's just over the pass. We hope to return to Luminosa again!!
