If you are looking for a quiet peaceful place, away from the main drag, we highly recommend staying here. Well-appointed spacious casita in very pleasant surroundings. Owner cares, and it shows! ( Please note that the final part of the drive is on a bumpy dirt road - so if you are looking for a place to stay where you come and go repeatedly throughout the day, this would not be ideal)

This was a perfect place to stay. It was quiet, beautiful and we had everything we needed. Carol and Ben were great hosts. We went on hikes right from the property and spent lots of time by the pool area. We had a very relaxing vacation, I only wish it was longer than 8 days. J & J Wisconsin

5.0   -   Great hiking a short walk away

We spent 2 weeks at the casita and enjoyed it immensely. The furnishings and decorations are comfortable and well-suited to the environment. The yard is active with birds and rabbits. The night sky is full of stars. Send a text to Carol and the hot tub will be ready by the time you return from your day's activities. Our interests were hiking, biking, and pickleball. We drove to a number of places to hike, but it's most convenient to just walk down the road a block or two to the marvelous trail system between the casita and the mountains. We felt like we had it to ourselves. Towering saguaros. Beguiling boulders. Some of the trails are also used by mountain bikers, but we only encountered 2 during our 3 hikes back there. We did some road biking. In one case, we took the bikes to the Basha's parking lot then rode the highway 77 shoulder up to Biosphere 2 about 13 miles away. Another time, we took the bikes to the Caݱada del Oro bike trail. It's one of many paved trails in Oro Valley. We also took the bikes to The Loop around Tucson and spent a day on that ride. The closest public pickleball place we found was at the Oro Valley Community Center. A good group plays most mornings 9-11:30 AM. A day pass grants access to the entire center, which includes weights, machines, and a swimming pool. The closest supermarket is Basha's 2-3 miles away. There's also a gas station and some restaurants in the same location. The last 1.5 miles to the casita is a dirt road. We had a minivan but were able to traverse the road without a problem, although we were surprised by cattle, deer, and coyote on the road at times. Carol and Ben are very accommodating hosts and took care of all of our requests cheerfully. We were very fortunate to find this hidden gem and hope your experience here matches ours.

My husband and I spent a few weeks at the casita in March and it was wonderful! The casita is so clean, cozy, comfortable, well decorated, well stocked. Perfect! Sitting in the yard is such a treat, beautiful mountain views, and visits from bunnies, and all sorts of birds, surrounded by native cacti and flowers. A short walk to the hiking trails at the base of the Catalinas, beautiful big boulders to climb on as you walk in the footsteps of the ancient Hohokam. Carol and Ben are the best! So nice, fun, accommodating! We miss you! Wonderful stay! Highly recommend!

This was our third February at Cloud Nine and we had a good time. Weather was not the greatest but we got to see the mountains and yard in a different way-clouds, rain and 5 inches of snow! The grounds were beautiful in the snow and Carol came over with some great home made soup to help us through the weather (the snow was gone by the next afternoon). Can see the wild life close up. Besides birds and rabbits and cattle, I saw a javelina and a bobcat. Wonderful getaway.

My husband and I spent 5 days at the casita and it just wasn't long enough! The house is beautifully decorated and Carol made sure we had everything we needed and so much more. We had lots of fun watching the birds and little critters run around, enjoying the phenomenal sunrises and sunsets, star gazing from the observation deck and just relaxing in this peaceful environment. I can't wait to go back!

Carol and Ben were very welcoming, made sure we were comfortable and that we lacked nothing. This is a great place to unwind while enjoying wildlife from the back yard, hike between the saguaros close to "home" and enjoy the sites Tucson has to offer.

Cloud Nine was a very private, peaceful little Oasis in the Beautiful Catalina Mountains for us. The Mountain View is amazing. Watching the birds and other wildlife in the yard was so enjoyable. While the casita doesn´t have a typical oven, it does have a very nice countertop toaster/ convection oven which served our cooking purposes just fine. Amazing location!

My wife and I had a weekend getaway at Cloud Nine to celebrate our anniversary and to say it was exceptional would be an understatement. The house is gorgeous, beautifully decorated, comfortable, has so much character, and the outside views were breathtaking (especially going up on the roof to lie down and watch the stars together). The owner also left a care package with wine, gourmet coffee, snacks, and water. We had such a wonderful, relaxing time, and days later, my wife is still raving at how much she enjoyed her stay. Thanks Carol!

From the moment you walk through the iron gate until you close it behind you for the last time, your time spent in this casita and it's surroundings is one of awe and pleasure. Star gazing on the outliok deck, relaxing by the pool or around the firepit, watching the jackrabbits and quail as they stop off to feed each morning, or just catching a few rays while gazing at the majestic mountains, you won't be disappointed. And when you tire of doing those things, you can stay inside and prepare a full course meal in the well appointed kitchen or head out in your car to one of the many fine dining or shopping experiences just minutes away. Carol was the perfect hostess in every way and we can't wait to go back!

4.0   -   Comfortable being in the Sonoran desert

Wife and I stayed 18 days in April, 2018. The garage and this casita (mother in law apartment) are together in a detached structure separated from the house a few yards by a walkway and patio. The best reasons to stay here are : 1) You like to be in the swinging chair on the patio in the early morning or late afternoon listening to and watching the quail, doves, hummingbirds, bunnies, and other birds eating and drinking a few feet away, the wind, and the silence of the desert, and the sun playing on the mountain in the background. There are few engine or city noises; perfect, if you want the raw experience of the desert away from the city without staying in a tent. Sit here with your coffee, reading, writing, meditating, sipping wine, doing art, visiting your friend, and watching the critters. 2) You like hiking the gorgeous trail that starts a couple of blocks away, heads across the old ranch, and enters the national forest where you'll find a treasure of hills studded with saguaros and ocotillos, with well marked walking, mountain biking, and horse trails. Bring water and go in the cool part of the day! A mountain bike too. 3) It's a good base for exploring other attractions : Sabino canyon, Saguaro West, Nogales, Mt Lemon, Original Guadalajara grill (prince st in Tucson), Tombstone, Fort Bowie, DeGrazia gallery. 4) It's a cool, shady refuge from the fierce sun. The bed is quite cozy. Nice refrigerator. Can prepare meals in kitchen. Owner is friendly. There are motels on the main roads, but people and cars are everywhere, so if you want to get away, stay here. Dust is the downside. Property is up a dirt ranch road, and drive way is dirt and gravel. So were all the other places we liked in Arizona. Take shoes off outside the casita. Watch the dust. And pollen and mesquite leaves. Help Carol, if you see her sweeping the patio outside the casita yet again. Wear snake guards and carry a snake stick if you go off trail. Rattle snakes can see you, but you can't see them. If you are lucky, as we were, they will rattle to warn you. Go to shopping center at the Golder Ranch road turn off from N Oracle for a large grocery store to restock on coffee, paper towels, etc. A good Sam's is 30 minutes away, with Fry's and Walmart closer.

5.0   -   Beautiful setting and very comfortable casita
Reviewed on Mar 02, 2018
This was the second time we stayed here in the month of February and enjoyed it even more than last year. The casita seems larger than the photos would make it seem. It is a short walk to many hiking trails into the Catalinas. The location is perfect for the sense of being away from it all, yet it is a 15-20 minute ride to any number of stores and restaurants. It is a great spot to relax and just absorb and enjoy the beauty of the setting. And Carol is a great hostess.

5.0   -   Ideal property to get away from the congestion of Tucson ! Beautiful/open views of mountains!

Our first time trip to the Tucson area of Arizona. Wanted to experience all that Tucson had to offer....but also get away from it all - especially since we come from a busy life style in Chicago. This Casita and it's location were about a perfect as could be. Enjoyed the lovely views and being able to take desert walks right from the property. One night we had friends over and had a camp fire in the yard as the sun went down. The only negative for some people might be that driving to and from the Casita at night is not easy because the property is located up in the foothills on a windy/hilly gravel based road. However, for us , the remoteness was a positive! Would definitely stay here again on a future visit.

Property is quiet, private, secluded, has outstanding views, and borders an extensive trail network near and into the Catalina Mountains. Carol could not have been more accommodating. Both the casita, and the outside grounds, were obviously appointed by a competent professional designer. All of the many decorative pieces were perfect. The affect of the property in general, together with the active rabbits, quail, and numerous other birds, is to make a guest feel in paradise.
